Merton R. Bell was born on May 3, 1912 in DeLeon, Texas. There, he graduated in 1930
from high school, having been an outstanding student and member of the
football team.
He
attended The University of Texas from 1930 - 1933 and completed his
bachelor's degree at Hardin Simmons University in 1936 following his
marriage in December of 1935 to MayRee Harrison, who would remain his
loyal wife for 67 years until her death in October of 2002.
Mr.
Bell attended Baylor Medical School in Dallas from 1939 - 1940, and
subsequently served as an army medic in World War II in the South
Pacific. He spent several years following his marriage as a high school
science teacher in the Trent and Brownfield schools. Most of his
professional career, however, was in sales - primarily in the life
insurance industry - including a number of management positions.
In
1974, he retired from other business activities to devote all of his
time to assisting his wife in the collecting and marketing of antique
china. The two operated The China Cupboard in Dallas until July
of 2002.
