This large porcelain figural grouping, by the famous manufacturer Schiebe Alsbach, is truly a masterpiece. From the fine detailing of the piano to the delicate handpainted expressions, this piece is stunning. On one end of the drawing room two ladies are fawning over the zealous piano player who like the ladies is richly dressed in vibrant colors touched with gold. The other side of the piece is balanced by another grouping of three, again two shy ladies and one gentleman looking on from his seat. Yet the focal point of the scene is obviously the couple so emgaged in the entertainment of the group, and one another. She, perched atop an ottoman with her rich burgundy and gold dress, is holding a candle which lights the face and voice of the gentleman below her. He imploringly sings in the direction of her luminescence, with a most ardent expression, and dashing figure. As any viewer may see, this grouping is certainly a lively one.
