This stunning figural scene, produced by the renowned Sitzendorf porcelain factory, portrays an evening of music provided by the famous, though short-lived composer, Franz Schubert. Two men stand at his right hand, one with a violin and removable "feather" bow, and three ladies stand at his left, singing from sheet music. One of the more unusual aspects of this piece is the pair of tiny metal spectacles, which actually fit into earholes on the Schubert figure. The other details on this piece are nothing short of magnificent, from the fine frills of Dresden lace, to the delicate handpainting, to the detailed sheetmusic and candleabra visible over Schubert's shoulder. The piece is also unique in that it was produced along with a porcelain placard that display's the subject matter of the piece: An Evening with Schubert. This piece is simply exquisite, and is one of the finest pieces in our collection.
