This magnificent piece was so ambitious, the manufacturer had to produce it in two separate pieces! This is certainly one of the most extraordinary porcelain figural groups you will find anywhere, and one of the finest ever produced by the Volkstedt porcelain factory. The top of the carriage is removable, revealing the two wide-eyed passengers within. Fine porcelain "Dresden lace" forms the fringes of their dresses as well as the sleeves and collar of the driver. The horses are also impressively molded to effect a staggering realism.
